Business Poster

You will locate 25 to 35 businesses in the Calhoun area. Each business must have a symbol on the map that corresponds to the symbol on the legend. Other areas that must be addressed on the legend sheet are: Who to sell to, What to sell and How to sell. Be very specific in your answers. 


Physiocrat vs. Mercantilist

Write a contrast essay in which you address all of the ways the two thoughts of philosophy are different. Paper should be a minimum of 500 words.


Kingdom of Mocha

Write a five paragraph essay. First paragraph should be an introduction and last paragraph a conclusion. The inner three paragraphs should discuss the three types of economies that were viewed in the video. Each paragraph should give characteristics of the economic system.

Trademarks

In studying the different types of market structures, the students will display legal monopolies: Trademarks. The students will be paired and as a partnership they will make a poster displaying 40 common trademarks. They will draw, label and color each trademark.

Discrimination

The students will watch a video showing discrimination and write a short essay on discrimination in the workplace. As a wrap-up  activity the students will participate in a educational food lab featuring Ben and Jerry's ice cream. The relationship between Ben and Jerry's ice cream and discrimination must be established.

Entrepreneurs

Students will view a video on Entrepreneurs and write an essay that outlines the lives of 8 prominent entrepreneurs: Thomas Edison, King Gillette, Charles Darrow, Famous Amos (Wally Amos) ,Margaret Rudkin, Robert Pittman, and Wilson Greatbatch.

Advertisements

Students will create a billboard advertisement on coffee, write and perform an advertisement on any item within the classroom.

Students will take one item and do five different advertisements on the same item showing the different techniques of advertising: rational, testimonial, slogan, bandwagon, and popularity.

Market Structures

Students will use the concept of differentiation within the monopolistic structure and make an item from coat hangers. Each item must be creative, unique and original. It will be presented to the class in the form of a television advertisement.

Review Concepts

Students will use a poster to demonstrate economic concepts from the text. Concepts that will be utilized will be: market structure, trade, unions, laws, mass production techniques, discrimination. Other topics may also be selected. All posters will be displayed and label with the correct standard.
